15 Minutes in Mommy’s Arms

Posted on November 11, 2007

Something smells around here Toby’s strong fingers Toby looking at his daddy

We haven’t seen Toby for 2 whole days due to being out of town at my first Baby Shower (beautifully given by Mark’s side of the family), so when the NICU nurse asked if I wanted some “snuggle time” with Toby, I jumped at the chance. Doesn’t Mark take beautiful photos!

Toby is now 2 lbs., 8.8 oz. and still 14.5 inches long. Even though his length has not changed since birth, Toby’s head circumference is growing at about 1/2 cm per week which is right on track per his neonatologist.

Okay, now this makes me say, “AWWWW.” This is as sweet as it can be! We got to see him for a few minutes last Saturday while you guys were down South. He is as cute as can be! Are you sure he is related to Mark??? LOL

If these pics look a little dark and/or grainy, it’s because they kept the room pretty dim becuase preemie’s eyes aren’t developed yet and bright light can cause problems.

Another tidbit of useless trivia is that they keep preemie’s blood oxygen level a bit lower than full term babies because too much oxygen will damage the growth of the eyes. Optimum range is 88 to 92 percent, whereas adults require 92 and higher.
